TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran wants the new U.S. President Barack Obama to be committed to his election campaign motto of “change” in U.S. policies, Iranian Ambassador to Ankara, Bahman Hosseinpour said.
If Obama remains committed to his motto, Iran will also review its relations with the U.S. provided that the country doesn’t set preconditions for talks with Tehran, Hosseinpour added in an interview with the Turkish state television channel TRT2.“If there is supposed to be conditions, we too would set our conditions”, he reiterated.
Elsewhere in the interview, the Iranian diplomat noted that Iran supports Palestinians’ rights and lauded the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on taking an opposing stand against Israel at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Erdogan tried to respond to a 25-minute defense of Israeli military operations in Gaza by the Zionist regime’s President Shimon Peres, but when after about a minute he was told he could not speak as it was time for dinner he walked out of the prestigious conference.
Also during the interview, Hosseinpour described as “a positive measure” the recent U.S. move on calling the Kurdish guerrillas of Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan (PEJAK) a terrorist group.
On Iran and Turkey relations, he announced the two countries’ plans for boasting economic exchanges to $20 billion which is now $12 billion.
